Illnesses that predominantly impact women are funded lower by #NIH than those that impact men.

"the disparity between actual funding and that which is commensurate with burden is nearly twice as large for diseases that favor males versus those that favor females."

I think that's why diversity is relevant in any endeavor, whether in science, in government, in courts. That's how you get a different perspective that is obvious in hindsight.

Very true, the thing is, women were treated as such second class citizens that it permeated into every space in society. It's going to take a push from we the people to demand equality. These findings are from 2021, so women's liberation came and went yet we didn't see automatic corrections.

Not to be forgotten: many (most???) principal investigators are men... being peer reviewed by
men... who allocate funding to their peers -- who
are men... It's surprising when women investigators/
researchers are funded at all...

This is why we don't have cures for many illnesses that impact women more than they do men.

Women have been underrepresented in medical research studies forever. This desperately needs to change.
