Here is my rule of thumb. If Christmas HAPPENS in a movie (Harry Potter, Deadpool two examples) it isn't a Christmas movie for me. If Christmas is integral to the plot (Die Hard - In LA for the holiday, building empty bc of holiday; Home Alone - family left for the holiday) it is a Christmas movie.
Bruce Johnson @BDJohnson
Just because a movie takes place in December does not make it a Christmas movie. Just because the word Christmas is mentioned does not make it a Christmas movie. Just because in one scene you see a Christmas tree does not make it a Christmas movie. Die Hard is NOT close to being a Christmas movie.

Note, this is just my rule. We all live by our own rules about consuming and categorizing art, just my little rulebook.

Hundred percent, and the energy of the office party, the limo driver, the police officer is all "let's just get through this and get to the holiday folks."
In response to Kat Schneider.
