In 2002 my delegation sat in the rubble of an Afghan home, hearing the story of a boy who'd been maimed by a US cluster bomblet when a woman came walking towards the house with a tray filled with tea and cookies. People who had nothing shared what little they had with strangers. Amazing.

When I visited our partner community in El Salvador I was amazed at how a family with so little shared so much with me. And, the joy with which they lived, despite having gone through a horrible civil war inspired me. I came home a changed person.
