I was there in Central Park near the Dakota at the public memorial organized for John Lennon after he was assassinated. It was my first time in New York City alone, much less on a subway. I sneaked there from a bordering suburb without my parents’ knowledge.

I think of my friend 87maroon97 who would each year through college, anyway, write an essay about the questions posed in Lennon’s song “Happy Xmas (War is Over).” I seem neither to hear neither this song nor a cover of it this season.

On the anniversary of the death of this “working class hero,” that, like so many other things, must change, and here I do my part. The juvenescence of the year approaches, and we must rededicate ourselves to the best of our natures.
