I.
Dark broken background. Text: 1. So often these days the world feels dark and heavy with no possibility of ever finding any form of light. Even as we look for it, in things like kindness and hope, we wake up daily to the shock of more death, more war, more pain, all in the name of greed, or hatred, or an unwillingness to see beyond the superficial lines we insist on drawing between people.

To choose to raise each other up, no matter how heavy another person’s burdens might be? How can we learn to see past the cruelty and lies that make light of the suffering of anyone different than ourselves? How do we stop the pain of waking up each morning without a feeling of hope.

Some may look to religion for this powerful light, but I believe it is an energy that exists both in the universe and within people, who are, after all, part of the universe inside our heavy flesh and egos, and the stories we tell ourselves or imagine about our own pain.

Heart hands framing the sun. Text: 5. Nobody deserves to suffer in pain when we live in a world of abundance. But some people refuse to see that there is enough for all, and that it is our responsibility to lift the heavy weight off of those who suffer. Kindness is our only hope if we wish to see a world that supports all of the people not just those who think themselves superior, and refuse to see the light . . .

A group of diverse hands in the center. Text: VI . . . that humanity carries within us. This is not the light of a god or religion created by man. That brings only pain. Our harsh reality is that religion does nothing for ALL the people. But when we are willing to look past these imaginary divisions and groupings, we see a world which still contains hope. When we work together, we can lift even weights that seem too heavy.
