Donald Trump has turned the GOP into the anti-science, anti-education, anti-facts, anti-democracy, pro-violence, pro-authoritarian party of crime. Decent thinking people who used to be Republicans know better than to stick around and pretend it’s not.

Good discription of fascists. Add racism and you’ve got nazism. But this can be said about the Dixiecrats prior to Nixons southern strategy. These things have always been apparent about them. The change is they’re now the official party platform. Proudly so.

FWIW the Dixiecrats were Southern conservative Democrats who were riled up by Pres. Truman's desegregation of the military and other policies that impinged on "States Rights" . Then as you say, it all flipped parties after the Republican Southern Strategy. and the election of Pres. Reagan.

This nonsense has been simmering in the GOP for decades. Inmate No. 𝐏01135809 just turned up the heat on the pot.

He didn't do that to the GOP. That's who they always were.

He merely exploited it for his personal financial gain.

NO...sorry but no. Plenty of documentary evidence shows this is who the core group was ALL ALONG. It's just now they're no longer bothering to hide it thanks to Mango Mussolini. Following his leadwill be their ONLY regret in years to come.

Two examples of Reagan's rightwing Christian allies: Anita Bryant and Jerry Falwell.

Not in my experience. Every single trumper I’ve ever know is still fully on board. Note, this includes refusing to vote for Biden to save the country. IE, still on board.

Nah. The GOP was already all that. They were just waiting for the right, absolutely amoral, corrupt front man. They wanted the perfect rep for their brand. Trump is a terrible businessman, but very successful at selling a false brand.

The Republicans have never been able to pick a fair candidate. It have been going on for decades. No reason to pretend otherwise. It is a Party of Duds.
