What specifically do "likes" do right now?

At 50 it's viral
At 100 a splashback
(numbers subject to change per Bouzy)
Make the spouter feel good
Show empathy, sympathy, support, etc.
You can learn from the number of likes on a spout what kind of spouts work with our culture.

Go forth and like.

Oh man...I've hit high 40s a few times...never broke 50...as for 100. None chance

That may have been before the viral tab and splashback. They don't do anything in terms of an algorithm. Because there is no algorithm. It's all linear in order of spouting.

Yes, absolutely! I don’t need to see 50 echoes of the same spout in my timeline every day. Likes are personal feedback, and they feel great. I don’t know why people are so obsessed with numbers.
