This is the ghost of jim crow haunting us all. Our politicians do not want to raise wages in the US. German politicians do their job.

But that wasn't easy either! Trade unions and (some) parties fought for it for many years, collected signatures.... And then, in 2015, the minimum wage became law.

Oh yes - there is a “minimum wage commission” that always redetermines the amount of the minimum wage.
