Happy Bday to a beloved living legend who was the first Black father to be portrayed in a sitcom♥️🎂🎈-- John Amos fought tirelessly for dignified roles in Hollywood, especially in his work fighting the stereotypical writing on Good Times. He never backed down & Norman Lear fired him because of it.

He was literally the only good part of that insulting show which btw never even had black writers ( a family living in a housing project in the South side of Chicago who. never lock their door? GTFOH)

Truth. My respect for him & Esther Rolle grew 1,000 times when I found out how bad they were fighting the writers & Lear for more dignity & reality in their roles. Ralph Carter was my fave, too (had a crush on him). I hated JJ. A Black writer (Eric Monte) created the show. Lear stole it & ruined it.
