The size of of your lane matters and it could be why so many crashes happen. A new national study of 1,100+ streets in the U.S. found that your risk of crashing is approximately 150% higher when the lane width increases from 9 ft to 12 ft. Wider lanes makes drivers feel safer so they drive riskier.

Drivers are more likely to hit cyclists who wear helmets too, which is just bizarre. They're more likely to crowd someone wearing safety gear.
(Which is absolutely not an argument against wearing safety gear, cuz a head injury is a head injury)

Isn't that so crazy! I believe we've read the same study because I want to say that drivers also gave more room to bicyclists who had "long blond hair". We shouldn't have to depend on drivers for our own safety. Shrink the lanes for driving and make more space for living.
