Also shock & disbelief slowed everyone down. Remember Trump’s actions after he lost the 2020 election were unprecedented. None of us have ever seen an outgoing US president refuse to cooperate after losing an election. It’s no wonder our institutions are struggling to adapt to this type of threat.

It's useful to remember that the Trump Administration, starting in November 2020, withheld all Federal funding for incoming Biden transition teams & denied team access to West Wing offices. That should have been a DEFCON 2 warning to the FBI, the SS, DC Police, etc. So many deaf ears prevailed...

Republicans, as part of the defense, are claiming the prosecution is taking unprecedented steps to charge a former president - yes, in a first time ever event, much will be unprecedented because it never happened before.

All the norms we took for granted were uprooted - mostly because Trump decided there was nothing to keep him from doing what he wanted.

As a co-worker noted recently, "We needed to have more rules written down and fewer passed on due to 'tradition.'"
