Peter King gets it right...

"The Lions should feel angry because Allen seemed to be in a rush to get the play going, not to get the play right. But the Lions seemed to be so intent on fooling the Cowboys—and they did; no one covered Decker—that they confused the official in the process.

And in not challenging Allen’s announcement of who was reporting eligible in the approximately eight seconds before the snap of the ball, the Lions were in effect saying that Allen was correct.

The NFL’s now going to have to create a clarification to this rule.

Only players who are reporting eligible should be allowed to go to the referee before a snap, and players who report must make the motion on the front of their jerseys.

It’s cool to try to pull the equivalent of the hidden-ball trick, but there’s too much that can go wrong with it in a rollicking football stadium, and we saw that Saturday night."

The ref involved here wasn't at that meeting; Campbell just bulldozed through so many steps without being methodical.

The refs will never get it all right. The tripping call in Dallas in the previous drive was literally nonexistent according to the tape.

The best coaches cover every angle anyway.

Well, we'll never know for if that's true or CYA by the refs since neither of us were there. We can probably agree that too often the refs get it wrong is ways that effect the outcome of games. Now that gambling is so interwoven with the games, it's going to come back and bite them.

MLB cleaned up its act after the Armando Galarraga near perfect game. The NFL is going to have to take steps to show that they're at least trying. I don't really see that now. I know it's sort of apples and oranges since the NFL moves at a much quicker pace but something need to be done.

As long as the TV deals and salaries keep going up, the rest is just background noise in business terms. The NFL is a juggernaut with a long history.

This crew was demoted out of the playoffs. I don't expect anything more.

"Do this or we'll stop watching" has never worked.
