The Electoral College was designed to exploit slavery (people as PROPERTY) to the benefit of WHITE wealthy landowners.

It was used to nullify the votes of the poor. Originally, it was proposed that Congress elect the President. However, forward thinkers wanted the people to vote, and the electoral college was a compromise. It is in Article II of the Constitution, before slaves gained freedom
