It’s funny that all the effort by the right being put into attacking Harvard only reinforces its importance. Why spend time tearing down an institution that allegedly has no value?

I think there is more to it. It is meant as a warning to all academic institutions that they and their leaders can easily be targeted. I do not doubt that some academics will think twice before exposing themselves to the vile attacks and practise self-censorship instead.

Just because it’s the intent does not mean it’s effective. Harvard will appoint a new president, the grifters will get their bag, and life will move on.

I can’t prove a negative. But these types of attacks on the Ivies from the right have happened for decades, and yet here we are.
