Paxlovid is no longer free from the government in the US. If you have private insurance, Pfizer provides a discount card for Paxlovid to take to your pharmacy. Go to paxlovid.com to download the card. Out of pocket Paxlovid costs $1390 which is absolutely ridiculous.

If you have mild symptoms, don't take Paxlovid. It leaves a bitter taste in your mouth that does not go away until you finish 5 day dosages. Also, check Single Care and Good Rx to see if you can get it cheaper.

Paxlovid will continue to be free through 2024 for people with Medicare or Medicaid through a patient assistance program operated by Pfizer, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

As far as I can tell, you need to go to the Paxlovid website and sign up for this. It's not something automatic at the pharmacy. This can be a huge deterrent when you're sick and need to get the drug quickly. People need to plan ahead.
