The more I think about it, the more I realize that a not inconsiderable number of my views and tastes were probably shaped in part by Star Trek. And the weird thing is, I'm not even a hardcore fan- there are Trek shows I've seen virtually none of. I'm a sporadic, casual viewer. And yet...

TOS was one of the first "grown up" shows I regularly watched as a kid. And there was a period in middle school where I watched a LOT of Trek reruns, because they were constantly on TV and I had a lot of free time and was a very unwilling and inattentive student back then.

I used to quip that I learned more from Trek reruns in grade 7 than I did from the public school system and, that's probably only a slight overstatement.

One thing: I'll never get Right-wing Trek fans. Its an (imperfect) attempt to imagine a better, and very much not capitalist or fascist, future.
