Daughter and SIL stayed in Aix-en-Provence w/ his family for a week over Christmas holiday. Flew into Paris, rented a car to get to Aix. 8 hr drive, but with traffic & accidents, took 13 hrs. They took the train back to Paris - 3.5 hrs. Breakfasts were excellent, walked everywhere. Took side trips.

Book early! The Tour de France has shifted south due to the Olympics in Paris.

BTW, if — unbeknownst to you — your spouse has planned your celebratory trip to coincide with the Tour, please DM. We may be married to the same person. #CyclistsTrailingSpouse

Carcassonne is cool. A medieval walled city that people still live in. There’s also a nice farmers market in the more modern unwalled part of town

I'm so jealous! You'll love it. Don't take a lot of clothes, but do take 2 or 3 pair of shoes. You'll do a lot of walking (!) and you may want some heels for dinnertime. A good guidebook on paper or video. I like having a rental car for freedom of movement. Enjoy!

Excellent advice!! Yes we too want freedom of exploration ie rent a car!
Do you have top sights to see?
My #1 is the Provence lavender but after that I'm clueless lol

I've seen Paris and Strasbourg (my ancestry!) But nowhere else in France yet!
