I replaced one of the ink cartridges on my photo printer today and discovered it needed a firmware update to recognize the new cartridge. This required connecting the printer to my computer using a USB-A cable.

The longest antique cable we have is 6 feet, so I had to maneuver my giant ass printer out of the closet to get it within 6 feet of my computer. In order to get the printer into the right mode for the upgrade, 5 buttons had to be pressed simultaneously and held for a minute.

I guess I should consider myself lucky that it didn’t also require dancing naked under a full moon. The update worked and the new cartridge is now recognized by the printer. One cleaning cycle, two head adjustments, and a cleared paper jam later, I got a print that was clean. Now I’m exhausted.

I gave up on inkjets some time ago. We ended up buying a Brother color laser. Wireless. Have not had a spec of trouble in about 4 years of use. One of the very best things is that you can let it sit for a year and print and it works. No dried ink on the heads. And minimal FW upgrades.

I’m sure technology has changed dramatically since I bought this printer 6 years ago, but if a laser jet printer exists that can make 24” wide photo prints, I’m pretty sure the price would make my eyes bleed. 😂
