Robins are often considered a British winter icon. They're so popular that in 2015 they were voted our first-ever national bird. These birds can be spotted in gardens throughout the year. We associate them with winter because their striking red breast is more visible amid the sparse foliage.

I was confused for a minute. I thought you were referring to another Robin species in Canada. Then I looked it up and learned the (North) American Robin was named for this British one! The NA Robin is our sign of Spring.
