My brother taught for 15 years - high school math. He liked the students and the teaching, and some of the parents ... the small town politics got him in trouble, though. He and another teacher unionized the teaching staff. Their contracts weren't renewed next time they came up. He never went back.

I am so sorry to hear that. It's definitely gotten tougher to be in education now. I teach in Florida, and I'm gay, so the chips are stacked against me. But I'm still fighting. I have to. I do feel for your brother. I hope he bounced back.

He started doing financial planning work. He was good at it, but ambivalent about it. He died young a couple of years ago, from cardiac issues. I hated it for him that the school did that to him - it was the school where we grew up, he loved the idea of teaching there.
