let me (a trained landscape architect) tell you that this selection of plants looks immeasurably nicer than the lawn but needs at least the same amount of water. There are indeed selections of perennials which could go with less water than a lawn, but these do not.

I’m more interested in what the revised, natural plant yard gives back. It’s beautiful, there are flowers for pollinators, and they are more hardy than the crappy lawn. Good for the soil, which helps the foundation, so all-in-all a win-win.
