Started my daughter's tax return. Her gross income for 2023 was a whopping $35 more than in 2022. Working the same 40 hours/wk.

Her annual income was about $2000 over the federal poverty line for a family of 2.

And her SNAP benefits were just reduced because she got a 40¢/hr raise in Dec.

There is a huge gap between the reduction in assistance and reality. People getting promoted at my workplace, for an extra couple of dollars per hour, found that they were also losing insurance and reduced lunches for their kids.

It all needs to be reformed.

My cousin’s daughter turned down a promotion because the overall benefit was less.

My daughter has coworkers who've reduced their hours because the extra income is nowhere near enough to cover the benefits they lose.
