This is a spectacular idea. A win-win. Perhaps oddly, when I think of prison reform for smaller crimes, I think of ideas like this. Imagine sentencing a person who stole a bag of food from a McDonald's counter, to working at McDonalds for 4/hr/day for two years... and he also get one meal as pay. 👀

Not to be a wet blanket here but…..how does this little kid become in debt to the Library for an overdue book? Couldn’t borrow Mom’s car to return it? She’s not old enough to be walking there alone.

One of my grandsons had a library book for 2 months that we thought he had taken back. He had the nerve to say that he got lazy. This would have been a good program for him because he loves to read and he would have paid the debt off quickly. But he had to use his allowance to pay it.

I like the allowance penalty better. Reading should be seen as fun, helpful, etc. Not the consequence of being irresponsible.
