I have to get a biopsy Tuesday. I got a call from them to "review" my insurance. Good news is I have already met my deductible for the year. My insurance will cover 90% of the cost of the biopsy. Anyone want to guess what my responsibility is? $529. #healthcare

Thank the gods I've been funding an HSA for the last 20 years, because I have the money available to pay my deductible and the 10%, but that doesn't make this any less ridiculous. I've already spent $1200 this year for follow-up mammogram and ultrasound after my annual turned up a suspicious mass.

But seriously a biopsy is going to cost over $6000 dollars and I'm responsible for 10% of that (they offered 20% discount if I pre-paid, which is where the $529 came from). How are people without insurance...or a funded HSA even...supposed to get care that doesn't bankrupt them?
