To some groups, the nation is a machine.
People's lives go in one side and money comes out the other.
They don't care what happens to those going through, as long as they think they aren't.
They perceive themselves as part of the machine, instead of fuel for it.

But they keep putting people in power, in control of the machine, who want to draw out more and more money.
Leaders who will demand more money.
Demand that call for them to also be fuel.
They chose not to see it, even though they built this hungry machine, and put hungrier people in charge.

This is simply the end result of making a machine that survives for its own sake. Whether you call it a machine, an economy, a government, a party, a religion, an ideology, or just label it as tradition.

The machine does not care, as long as it keeps being fed.

And people who think themselves out of the reach of its hopper end up trying to defend their position, so they never facer what the inside of the machine might be like.

That is the nature of a privilege bubble.

Patty & Chuck, standing on a meat grinder, watching people go in, then pretending they are not made of meat while you try to enjoy their next burger.
