African American Civil War Museum in Washington, D.c. honors the “colored soldiers” who fought in the Civil war.
In its infancy and long before the National Museum of African American was an idea, I became a member.

Housed in the “Harlem” of Washington, D.C., it tells the story of soldiers who fought in the Civil war from a number of states.

My g g grandfather volunteered for 5th Colored United Infantry Regiment from Massachusetts.
This regiment was a lesser known unit than the 54th, depicted in, “Glory.”
