Reading the chapter, My Name, really brought back memories.
My name is Bridgette and I used to get teased a lot in school. Kids would make fun of me by singing “London bridge is falling down” in a mean way. Or instead call me “gidget”, “midget”. Kids were awful. #SBBC #MangoStreet

But what really struck me were these sentences:
“She looked out the window her whole life, the way so many women sit their sadness on an elbow.”
“I don’t want to inherit her place by the window.”
As a little girl, I envisioned my life so different than the one I grew up in.
