And the lies persist: online Encylopedia Britannica today posts an article dated 29 January 2024, which states, "Dickey attended Clemson College in South Carolina before serving as a fighter-bomber pilot in th e U.S. Army Air Forces."

Bless his heart and thanks for his service, but he was a navigator, not a pilot, as he claimed for many years. A complicated man, a great poet, and father to an amazing set of children, all of whom highly accomplished in their own right: Christopher, Kevin, and Bronwen.
