What is troubling about social media immunity is that legally the platforms are being treated like corporations (artificial people), not media. Social media platforms are MEDIA influencing billions of people. They have become ubiquitous in our world, influencing both social mores and politics.

Even with 1st Amendment protections, traditional media: (radio, television and print) cannot publish: obscenity, child pornography, defamatory speech, false advertising, true threats and fighting words without facing third party lawsuits.

Social media immunity has to be repealed and the industry treated like what it is: media which publishes defamation, falsehoods and hate. It should and would have 1st Amendment protections with all the same potential liabilities and FCC oversight imposed on traditional media.
