I learned, via More or Less on BBC Radio 4
yesterday, that the cost so far of the UK junior doctors strike - mostly due to paying more expensive consultants to do their jobs during strikes - works out at £1.1bn - £1.2bn.

However the cost of paying the doctors' salary demands works out at £1bn net per year (that's £1.8bn gross, but the government recovers £0.8bn in income tax & national insurance).

So it would be cheaper & better for us all for the government to just pay the doctors a decent salary!

I understand government advisors have come to the same conclusion, but Rishi won't agree to settle.
