i bought this on ebay for $10. my mother subscribed to it & i’d grab it out of the mail asap. it was even easier to snaffle on to during the summer. it was for the fiction. i loved reading short stories about & aimed at 32 yo women. i was around 11 yo when this issue arrived on a warm day

in late june 1976-the bicentennial july issue. on that warm late june day, i lay on a lawn chaise in the shade of a huge hickory tree & read a short story called “rowena’s hair.” i never forgot it. i didn’t intentionally remember it; it just popped into my mind occasionally, unbidden. once or

twice a year i’d search the title & fiddle with search terms & redbook archives, get no results, and forget about it. until last week, when an ebay page popped up in search results. it was the july 1976 issue for $10, including shipping, i guess the seller indexed the entire toc. so, cool! right??
