How can there be American exceptionalism when all of its residents were not allowed to participate? Instead mediocre groups were lauded to the status of exceptional. That created a false identity that crumbles when the playing field is broadened and full participation is encouraged. #FireNextTime

Seriously, for me, American exceptionalism seems bound up in a weird type of patriotism that believes that your country is the best in the world because you were born in it.
