It's happened to at least three-quarters of daily newspapers. Most of them are owned either by hedge funds or Gannett, which sanitizes and whitewashes both-sides journalism in the cities it publishes. It's rare to have an independent newspaper anywhere, anymore.

It really pains me how the small papers and zines are slashed. Vice was all over the place but I hate to see this.

Journalism never paid much, if you weren't a rock star - it's one of several reasons I dropped out of J-school back in the Jurassic Era. Now, pubs have a hard time keeping journalists, & journalists have a hard time buying food on what pubs can pay. Vulture capitalism just makes it that much worse.
