My beef with the news media is with the major corpos who own them. Not with the indie sources, or the locally owned outlets (the few and far between) that wanna get it right. The major corpos agenda is the make more money for shareholders.

I did a few weeks ago read a comment that peaked my interests. Straight up, the argument was that an all-out attack on the media is a Tu Quoque fallacy. To be fair, it is folly to lump in orgs that are doing the right thing, and those whom are controlled by the C-Suite.

The problem (especially in the USA) is that there's ton of conservative voices who want to make the mainstream media into Fox News-lite. That's a pain however. Fake balance is in itself a logical fallacy. Yes the reporters and journalists should make every effort to get all sides of the story.

They have an obligation however to make sure everything lines up. They also have an obligation to make sure everything they say is true, and they also have an obligation where it's very obvious on who's wrong to hold them to account. However, we the consumer also share in part of this too.

We have an obligation to make sure we crosscheck what's said, and to also do our own due diligence. What does that mean? That means we become more literate in the news media, to not take headlines at face value, and to look for where the lede is buried. Also we have one major obligation.

That is, we MUST make sure we read/watch more than one or two sources to get the full picture. It's been said for actual good reporting on American events/politics, you have to go to foreign, English-language sites. They tend to be more OBJECTIVE since there's no fear of them fearing access.

Also however, this problem isn't just unique to the USA. In all cases, if the Corpos want people to take them seriously...they need to take a long look at why people distrust them. If we want to clean up the media, we have options. We must use and support those options

Also make sure to crosscheck everything, and read/watch/listen to more than one source. It's going to take everybody to realize that a free/fair press depends on everybody.
