I had someone offer me $30 to knit them a queen size blanket.

I just stared at them.

$30 wouldn't cover the cost for the yarn, much less the time it would take.

This is why my usual immediate answer when someone asks me to make something for them, is no.

Just because something is a hobby for most people, doesn't mean people shouldn't be fairly compensated for their work if they decide to sell a piece.

Quilters especially suffer the indignity of low-ball offers for their incredible talent and work.

Once these skills were handed over to women, men refused to acknowledge that they were skills and therefore worthy of payment.

Add to that the more recent "hobby" moniker and people assume you'll be willing to work for free.
