My maternal great grandfather was born in 1869 in Georgia but lived most of his life in rural South Carolina.

Can you imagine the hope he believed with the 13, 14, and 15th Amendments and the Freedmen's Bureau, all to be returned back to the most oppressive life as close to slavery as possible?

Within his young adult years?

I remember as a child going south every summer of hearing the fear of my grandparents by the "yes suh" talk and "taking off the hat" to white people.

The story of Emmett Till was frightening to me, I could have been that kid.

It's 2024 y'all ...we are real people with real experiences. Most of us learned to live and overcome them, but never forget.

There's a rebirth of the organized effort to ensure others don't learn history through the eyes or marginalized people.
