More whiplash weather here. We hit 65 degrees (forecast was 62), making it the warmest day in February on record. The prior record of 64 was set in 1896. Today will be 44 and tomorrow 22! But wait, it’s supposed to reach 70 on Sunday, which would be another record. Normal highs are low 30’s.

Here in balmy upstate NY I expect an earlier than normal and longer burn ban.

Ugh! We still have in B.C. 92 active fires from last year. Yup, even in the winter.

Last summer we watched the smoke roll in like fog from the fires in Ontario. It happened that fast.

It appears to be worse, for B.C.and I have not looked up any statistics from before 2012, but it does not appear to be getting worse from 2012. The thing is that on average 42 percent are human-caused.

It appears so, but the interesting thing is that some trees are not replenishing themselves, instead, shrubs and grassland are replacing the trees.
