Freedman’s Memorial Cemetery honoring 5,000+ freed slaves is one of the nation's largest. Founded in 1861 in one of Dallas' early Black Freedman's towns, it was partially buried in 1940s under Central Expressway but revealed and relocated during 1990s freeway expansion.
