SCOTUS is aiding and abetting trump in delaying resolution of the January 6 criminal case by agreeing to hear his frivolous “absolute presidential immunity” argument.

There was utterly no need for SCOTUS to hear this case—especially now, after previously refusing to hear it and deferring to the DC Circuit, which issued a comprehensive and authoritative decision that SCOTUS seems incapable of improving upon.

This is malignant narcissism by SCOTUS at best (“only we may decide this, even though we refused to do so earlier”), and outright intentional interference on trump’s behalf at worst. On the latter point, Clarence Thomas has conspicuously refused to recuse himself.

The DC trial must proceed immediately after SCOTUS is done, even if it runs smack into the November election.

For trump to complain about that, after causing this needless delay, would be as if the Menendei had begged for mercy because they’re orphans—and even they weren’t shameless enough to do that.

Note how much faster SCOTUS went in the Colorado 14th Amendment case--when speed served trump's purposes because he wants to be on the Colorado ballot--than in the DC insurrection case.

Time between response to petition and granting of petition:
... CO case, ONE day.
... DC case, 14 days.

Time between granting of petition and briefing/argument dates:

... CO case, briefs due 13, 26, and 31 days later; argument 34 days later.

... DC case, briefs due 20, 40, and 47 days later; argument 54-58 days later (precise day to be announced).

In response to John Manier.
I suspect the goal is to delay a conviction until after he's secured the nomination, then argue he can't be held accountable because it would be "election interference".
