I wish I knew more of the history behind this very old Singer sewing machine I found while clearing out my mother's house. What I do know is that my maternal grandparents immigrated from Austria and Switzerland in the early 1900s to start an embroidery business.

I think you have already discovered quite a bit of history about it. I love your family history. Thanks for spouting. 😊

One of my cousins was interested in the sewing machine, so she is doing research on it. I remember when I was very young visiting the embroidery shop my uncle had. The machines were massive, and so loud when they were running.

Did the family embroidery shop ever changed ownership?

I hope your family can find out a bit more about your mum's sewing machine. That would be so cool.

Yes, my uncle eventually retired and sold the business, probably sometime in the mid to late 1980s. He continued to own the building, though, leasing it to the new owners of the business. My cousins eventually sold the building after my uncle passed away in 2010.
