As a cautionary tale, Exhibt A: My mom.

She moved just after Thanksgiving to condo below me from across town (still in Nashville, but different district).

She brought her ID, water bill & mail from bank w/USPS forwarding label on it.

It was taking her forever, so I went back after I'd voted /1

Not only did they not have her updated address in system, they couldn't find a record of her address in the data base at all.
"Is this new construction?"
No. These are condos & they were built in 1986.
My husband & I just voted & have been for 13+ yrs at address 1 digit different from Mom's. /2

"Try typing in that address, just to see if it comes up."
(Well, of course it's going to come up, 2 registered voters living there just placed their votes).

Oh, and btw, when she 1st moved to TN, OUR address WAS HER address for 8 months & on her 1st TN DL.

Lots of convos between 3 workers which /3

included a call to a higher up, or help desk, or what not.

They were all very nice, as were we, and eventually they let Mom vote.

But Mom is an old white lady in TN, 48th out of 50 worst voter turnout, trying to vote in a primary, w/lots of documentation & they almost didn't let her vote. /4

Imagine what would happen in a swing state?

For the general, or a hotly contested run-off?

Etc...?

Check and double check your voting status.

That's all I'm saying. /5/End.
