I was 5 and remember Mom and Dad talking about this hurricane because it carried the same name as me.

I was nine months old, and my parents had to flee the town of Jones Creek, just five miles inland from Freeport. They went north of Houston to my mom's cousin's home. I took my first steps while Carla put Freeport under water.

Yeah, people came back to find water up to the roof line. Some found rattle snakes in their homes after the waters receded.
