Not only that, I would suggest we ALSO think @ the slave labor of Natives in, say Califoria, & how their bodies were sold in the slave market of LA, & of Latinos and their labor built this land, & how contracts & the company store kept them tied to the fields & houses of the ubscrupulous.

Was this chattel slavery? No, except in the case of Native Californians.- but still horrifically destructive. And for the CA Natives, it was the Emancipaton proclamation that eventually saved them from this continuing into the 20th century.
