One of the seniors brought me this big ol packet, asking me to help fill out their benefits renewal so they won't lose their food stamps. It's a lot of info needed and it really just confused him. Hell it confused me for a minute when I was reading it. But this is what I tried to tell Boomer Boss.

This job is about so much more than certifications and deadlines. Seniors need help and when they trust you they're going to ask for it. And I can't speak to anyone who worked here in the past, but there's no use being here if we aren't also going to be of service.

Is it a pain in the butt? Of course it is. I can't tell you how I've only gotten through a handful of lunches without the doorbell or knocking on the door. My co-workers are like, "they like you, you're super helpful." I am. I see my grandmother and my mother, they lived in senior housing.

I kill them with kindness because some of them can be nasty. But most are nice ladies and cool oldheads who sometimes need help with forms or phone calls, I don't take too much time from my day to help them. As the Resident Occupancy Specialist I feel it's part of my job.

Right. Some of them have good kids, siblings, and friends. But fir those who do not, the faces in the office are someone they can turn to when they really need.
