The Biden Admin is putting up another $2 billion+ in financing to boost the development of an American lithium industry for EVs. Pretty big news:

Ed's blog is a great resource. Do you know if this loan for lithium development has any strings tied to use in the US or can it be sold anywhere?

We'll know when it's officially closed, but GM has first dibs on all lithium that comes out of that mine (from an earlier investment.) And they'll need it all to make sure its U.S. vehicles qualify for federal tax incentives. Functionally the answer is almost all of it will be for cars in the U.S.

I know these types of incentives are usually complicated, so its never straightforward to accomplish in 300 characters, but thanks for connecting the dots. Now if the US govt would make the EV tax credit refundable rather than nonrefundable, demand would go up even more 🤭
