If I can afford (both in time and $$) to take time off to get my adopted daughter to therapy, then I have demonstrated a need that gets me even more resources. But if I am struggling and can't get her to those appointments, then I must not *need* them and subsequently lose benefits.

Whoever designed the spreadsheet had their heart in the right place, but didn't walk through the input and outputs, didn't realize that attempting to put human beings into numerical cells requires caution and thoughtfulness.

Another example: I lose points because my kid hasn’t set the house on fire. But the list is arbitrary and limited. I don’t get points for the numerous issues the spreadsheet author didn’t think of.
