The opening credits of "Shogun" are stunning. Not sure about this guy who plays Blackthorne, though. He's no Richard Chamberlain and his eyes bother me.

The rest of the cast, though, perfection.

Sometimes, opening credits can be an artform in itself. My examples for such are the ones for Watchmen (the film, not the series, which condensed 40 years of history into one smooth montage) and Carnival (weaving in and out between 1930s newsreel and mystical realities).

It’s James Clavell. His whole genre is based on the white gaze. They’re doing a better job than in the original Richard Chamberlain series, but you can’t escape it if you’re going to do Clavell’s books.
