I’m making tracks along the seafront in the Purbeck town of Swanage.

This tramway once carried Purbeck stone and, in later years, fish between the town and ships at its pier.

Pip the Golden Retriever is standing to the right of the picture between old rails embedded in the stone walkway that runs along the quay next to Swanage Bay. He is looking at you with a retriever smile on his face. In the distance, there are a line of pretty terraced houses along the seafront as the quay swings round to the right.
The horse-drawn Swanage Pier Tramway opened in about 1858 and remained in use until the 1930. About 100 metres of track remain, embedded in the walkway linking the town centre with the pier. In the middle distance, a set of points links the track to a white building on the left of the line.
