Duolingo says I need to practice my noun genders, but how do you practice something that makes no sense? Vestido, or “dress” is masculine, and corbata, “necktie”is feminine. Like weird English spelling, you just have to memorize things.

having a background in learning latin (the "mother" of all romance lnguages) maybe I can help in so far as -a endings usually indicate a femininum, -o endings most of the time a masculinum

IMO it´s easier to learn the exceptions to the rule than to remember the genus of every single noun individually. At least that´s how we managed to learn Latin 😀
