You're absolutely right. With housing and rent going up, we are seeing increasing risk of homelessness among a significant group of working people who are one disaster away from poverty. They are Asset Limited Income Constrained Employed, or ALICE households (about 30% households here locally) https

And homeless people have jobs. I see folks setting off to work from the park daily. Look mostly like construction and fast-food services but I don't want to stare like a weirdo so not 100% sure. One woman is a home health aid who's son is too old for the family shelter & they don't want to split up

Exactly! Phoenix is a great example of a place with a large population in that position, especially retirees who are renting or living in 55+ mobile home communities
